A Brand New Day

1 December 2008

When I got back from Mexico, I went to make a cup of rice. The bottom of my rice box was still the brown/red/barley mix, but most of the box was this fancy rice I had bought at the Japanese grocery. But as I was scooping out a cup, I noticed that there were black spots in my rice.

Upon closer inspection, the black spots were found to be little insect corpses.

I didn’t throw the rice out immediately, because I didn’t have the time (or the cash) to replace the rice right away, and I didn’t want to have a house without rice.

So anyway, after some financial hocus pocus, I walked down to the store and bought my red-alert groceries, including a new bag of delicious looking Korean rice.

I dumped the old rice into a plastic grocery bag and rinsed out the rice box and set it to drain. The buggy rice got dumped unceremoniously into the can at the front door; my new rice went into the box this morning.

Big breath. It’s a brand new day.
